The downside to using phones with large screens is that typing on them with one hand is near impossible unless you have really big hands or a long thumb. We suppose that’s one of the trade-offs we’ve had to make just to enjoy big screen phones. Now some companies have come up with a way to enable one-handed use and Microsoft is one of them.

In a recent video by Windows Central, they have demonstrated an upcoming feature that will be part of the Windows 10 operating system for mobile devices, and that is the inclusion of a one-handed keyboard. This feature was spotted in the latest build of the Windows 10 technical preview for phones and basically what it does is that it squishes the keyboard to either the left or right of the phone’s display.

So depending on whether you’re left-handed or right-handed, the keyboard should be small enough where you can use it with just one hand. Of course depending on how heavy the phone is, the balance may or may not be off, but for the most part it should allow users to type with one hand without having to stretch their hands or thumb too much.

However as noted by Windows Central, this is a feature that is limited to phones with larger displays. For example it is enabled in the Lumia 1520 which packs a 6-inch display, but was not enabled in the Lumia 635 which has a smaller 4.5-inch display, something that users might want to take note of.
