bionic-lens-20150518The future is here because according to Dr. Garth Webb, an optometrist from British Columbia, he claims to have invented a bionic eye that will give its wearer vision three times better than 20/20 and the good news is that it will last you an entire lifetime. Speaking to CBC News, Webb claims that this is a project that was 8 years in the making with $3 million worth of funding.

Speaking about how clear the Bionic Lens would be, “This is vision enhancement that the world has never seen before. If you can just barely see the clock at 10 feet, when you get the Bionic Lens you can see the clock at 30 feet away.” Webb is also claiming that the device will not require a long procedure and will only take 8 minutes to install.

How the surgery works is that the lens, folded like a taco, will be placed in the eye where after about 10 seconds it will then unravel itself and the wearer’s eyesight would be instantly corrected, which sounds a lot like placing a contact lens on one’s eye. Webb even showed off his invention to his peers before the annual gathering of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

So far it seems that many of his peers are impressed and optimistic about his invention, which at the moment is being tested on animals, although Webb is hoping to begin the human trial soon and that come 2017, the first Bionic Lens would be made available to the world.
