combo-breakerWhat can you do in 30 seconds? While I can think of some really casual stunts like picking my nose, this unique and diminutive 3D printed robot, known as the Combo Breaker, would have been a whole lo more productive as it claims to be able to crack a combination lock in that allocated amount of time.

Hacker Samy Kamkar (who also hacked the likes of the SkyJack drone) did publish on his website not only the blueprint, but also software code as well for a 3D-printable Arduino-based lock-opening robot that has been dubbed as the “Combo Breaker.” Using the Combo Breaker is a snap – all that you need to do is to attach it to any of millions of Master Lock combination locks, turn it on, and it will start to get to work. How does it weave its magic? It will pinpoint a Master Lock security vulnerability that was recently discovered in order to open the lock, taking a maximum of five minutes without the need for any human interaction.

Kamkar mentioned, “The machine pretty much brute-forces the lock for you. You attach it, leave it, and it does its thing.”

Sounds like a pretty interesting project, and this just goes to show how a security chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
