Last week we reported that Fujifilm announced that they had a new firmware in the works for their Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless camera. This firmware update will bump the camera’s firmware to version 4.0 and while firmware updates are usually pretty boring, this is one firmware update that has many X-T1 photographers excited for.
Now previously Fujifilm had stated that the firmware should be released in June but they did not provide any specific dates, but thanks to the folks at Fuji Rumors, they claim that the update should be released on the 18th of June. This is according to one of their sources who has been proven right in the past, so there is a chance that this information is accurate.
Of course Fujifilm does have the right to change the release of their firmware whenever they want, so even if it is pegged for the 18th of June internally, a last minute change could see the release delayed, so try not to get your hopes up just yet, but at the same time we’ll keep our eyes peeled for it all the same.
For those wondering what the fuss is all about, the firmware update will basically introduce a new and improved autofocus system with multiple modes that will make it easier to capture moving subjects. It has also been improved to help with low-light and low-contrast shooting environments. This is also the same system that can be found in the newly announced Fujifilm X-T10.
