Fujifilm’s X-T1 is a pretty good mirrorless camera if you were to do a quick review search for the device. It snaps some pretty amazing quality photos, but if you’ve always felt that its autofocus system could be improved upon, your wish has been granted. Fujifilm has recently announced that the camera will be getting a new autofocus system in an upcoming firmware update.

Bumping the camera’s version up to version 4.0, Fujifilm will introduce the new and improved autofocus system as part of several improvements that they will be making to the camera in general. For starters there will be Zone and Wide Tracking modes. These modes will supposedly make it easier to capture moving subjects.

As for the autofocus system, it has been updated and will now be able to focus better in low-light conditions and on low-contrast items. There will be a variety of autofocus modes such as Eye Detection autofocus, Auto Macro mode, and there will be an Exposure Compensation control for manual users.

For those who shoot videos occasionally on the camera, a new algorithm supposedly will help improve a more natural and smooth autofocus. That being said it sounds like an exciting update to the camera but unfortunately the firmware is only expected to be available in June, so until then Fujifilm X-T1 owners will just have to remain patient!
