instagramMany of us use Instagram to document our lives, whether it be our day at the gym, our trips overseas, or our daily meals, Instagram is there to document it all for us. However Instagram can also be used in other ways, such as by brands to reach out to customers and announce new products, sell your own photos, and now with the help of Getty, they want to help document underrepresented communities.

Getty Images has recently announced that they are looking for Instagrammers to help them document underrepresented communities and will give them up to $30,000 in grant money for it. There will be a total of three grants and not only will the winners be able to get the grant and use it to help finance this project, but they will also be getting mentorship with Getty Images photographers who will help them learn to take photos better.

According to Getty, “The purpose of this grant is to support photographers using Instagram to document stories from underrepresented communities around the world. We recognize that Instagram has introduced new opportunities for emerging voices, outside the mainstream media, to create and share projects of social importance. This grant provides financial support and mentorship to amplify their impact.”

If you think that you have the chops and what it takes to participate in this project, you can head on over to Getty’s website and submit their application. The deadline is the 4th of June and applicants will be evaluated based on their current body of work, so if you haven’t created a portfolio yet, perhaps you should.
