reserve-strapAs you might have heard, the Apple Watch features a hidden port which has been initially assumed to be used for diagnostic purposes. However the creators of the Reserve Strap believe that by tapping into this hidden port, they could create accessories that would allow for the Apple Watch to be charged faster than it is now.

At the moment, the Apple Watch uses a magnetic charger that attaches itself to the back of the watch. The Reserve Strap had initially planned to use the same method to create its charging watch strap, but after getting their hands on the device, they discovered that by using the hidden port, it allowed for the watch to be charged faster.

Not to mention connecting to the hidden port allows for a more elegant solution compared to their previous idea. According to the creators, “By utilizing this port instead of wirelessly charging, we’ve been able to achieve a higher charge capacity and quicker, more efficient charging times while also improving durability and eliminating any interference with Apple Watch functionality including taptic feedback and heartrate sensors.”

Sounds good, doesn’t it? It also means that if the folks behind the Reserve Strap can use the feature, it also opens up the door to other accessory makers who might be able to take advantage of the port for similar fast-charging features, or perhaps something else entirely. In the meantime for those who want to get their hands on the device can pre-order it for $250, but unfortunately availability was not mentioned yet.
