Intel has added several new models to its NUC lineup which basically consists of cheap and low-power desktop computers that are packaged in nifty little boxes. The new models added in the NUC lineup include 6 watt processors based on Intel’s Braswell architecture. Since there are no fancy specifications and this is really a barebones solution, prices are very reasonable, starting at $140.

The Intel NUC5CPYH and NUC5PPYH have 1.5GHz Celeron N3050 dualcore processor and 1.6GHz Pentium N3700 quadcore processor respectively. Both of them are 64-bit 14nm chips with support for up to 8GB of RAM.

They’re low-power processors that are based on the same architecture as the latest Atom chips from Intel, but expect better performance at the cost of a nominal increase in power consumption.

The Intel Pentium N3700 quadcore processor on the NUC5PPYH has Intel HD graphics with base clock speed of 400 MHz with burst speeds of up to 700Mhz. The Celeron chip has Intel HD graphic with clock speed of 320MHz and burst speeds up to 600MHz.

Both new models are available for purchase through retailers, prices start at $140 and go up for the more powerful models. They’re packaged in a box that’s about 4″ x 4″ and includes a motherboard with processor. RAM, onboard storage and operating system have to be added by the customers.
