LG-Watch-Urbane-LTE-07

This issue doesn’t affect LG Watch Urbane owners in the United States but people who used this smartwatch outside the country would have faced an issue that would have left them quite confused at first. The existing software build on the Watch Urbane only allows the smartwatch to connect to Wi-Fi network channels above 11. This isn’t a coincidence since these are only channels that are legally accessible to consumer devices sold in the U.S.

Folks who live outside the U.S. are not likely to be aware of this fact which is why Google’s Android Wear forum is filled with complaints from Watch Urbane owners outside the country who can’t connect to their local Wi-Fi networks.

The Federal Communications Commission in the country has specified that consumer electronic devices with Wi-Fi being sold in the U.S. only use channels 1 through 11 whereas the European Telecommunications Standards Institute allows devices to access channels 1 through 13.

LG Watch Urbane owners don’t have to worry though since this issue can easily be fixed with a software update. One was also released for Chromecast units in Europe after users of the streaming stick faced the same issue. Google says that the update should be out for this device “soon.”
