Microsoft has received a lot of criticism for not launching high-end Lumia handsets, the company was actually following a different strategy. It released a multitude of low-end and mid-range handsets targeted more towards emerging markets and the first-time smartphone buyer. The Lumia 435 is one such device, which was launched in the United States with a $95 price tag, but now it’s down to just $49.88 on Walmart.

Microsoft Lumia 435 was launched only earlier this year for $95 in the country. It’s an entry-level device so don’t expect high-end specifications but it certainly gets the job done.

Walmart is now selling the Lumia 435 for $49.88 with a T-Mobile connection, since the carrier has done away with conventional two year contracts, customers don’t have to commit to a binding contract when they pick up this smartphone from the retailer.

Lumia 435 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz dualcore processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. There’s a 4 inch WVGA display, a 2 megapixel rear and VGA front camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G HSPA+.

It’s unclear at this point in time if Walmart has halved the price of this smartphone due to a promotion or if it’s a permanent price cut. In any case, the Lumia 435 has now become an even more compelling option for people who are in the market for a cheap smartphone, regardless of the operating system.
