Now would be a good time to fire up Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s hit, “One Sweet Day”, after Hugo Barra, International VP at Xiaomi, has sent signals Xiaomi of China has the intention to sell smartphones over in the US, although there was no concrete indication as to when that particular day might come. Well, at least we do know that progress has been made, since Xiaomi recently shared word that they will open up an online “Mi Store” Stateside, in addition to three European regions – France, Germany and the U.K., some time early next month.
Unfortunately for the masses, those online stores will not sell any kind of Xiaomi smartphones, but rather just accessories at the moment. Well, the big day will eventually arrive, but let us keep our fingers crossed that when that happens, it will not be a case of a little too late for Xiaomi.
The thing is, accessories might not net Xiaomi that much profit in the first place, but at least it is a good place to start, and perhaps to gauge what the intended market’s perception would be like where the Xiaomi brand is concerned. Better late than never would be the mantra to follow here.
