When we buy new phones, our old phones are typically chucked to the wayside, given to friends or family members, or sold off. However if you have some old phones lying around with removal batteries, you might be interested in a Kickstarter project dubbed Better Re that will give your old battery a new lease on life.

The idea is that at the rate many of us change our phones, sometimes a year after purchase, many of the batteries in our devices are still pretty efficient at around 80%. This means that they are still useful and should not be thrown away. With Better Re, the goal is to take these batteries and turn them into external power sources, kind of like a power bank except that it uses your old battery.

Granted it might not store the same amount of battery compared to power banks in the market today, but at the same time you won’t be damaging the environment by reusing your old electronics. In fact according to the stats, only 11% of mobile devices are actually recycled so if you don’t recycle them, we suppose at the very least you could reuse them, or parts of them, right?

The Kickstarter project for Better Re was put together by a South Korean based startup called Enlighten. Its campaign has since exceeded its goal of $50,000 with 49 hours to spare (at this time of writing). If you’d like to learn more or pledge your support, you still have a couple of days until the project comes to an official end, so hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.
