BMW ConnectedDrive

We all suffer from the lack of parking space, especially in a busy market area or a shopping mall. Thankfully, BMW has observed the issue and is coming up with a solution or addition in its connected navigation systems, known as Dynamic Parking Prediction.

At the TU-Automotive Detroit connected car fair, BMW will be presenting the new service as a research prototype application. The automative giant has collaborated with INRIX to make this new system. There are already many navigation systems present in the market that alert the driver about the intensity of traffic and congestion on the road.

So, this new system also employs the same technique as used in the traffic prediction system. The Dynamic Parking Prediction system predicts through its data as to where a parking space is available for the vehicle. BMW also conducted a test with its partner INRIX’s test vehicles to see if the system could work in the real-time conditions, the results confirmed that the local prediction algorithm and parking data from INRIX’s fleet that was being used for the experiment could predict where free parking space might be located.

Until now BMW has not given any word regarding the new system’s installation in the upcoming cars. The company is of a view that the new system will not only come handy while parking, but will also help in decreasing the congestion on the roads of busy areas, which in turn would benefit all the drivers.
