ford focusUber is a concept in which anyone with a car can essentially become a driver for someone else. This is handy since it means that in some instances, Uber cars and drivers might prove to be more convenient and faster than taxis at getting to your location. However it seems that Ford wants to take that idea and take it to the next level.

The company has recently announced that they will be experimenting with a new service in which instead of you driving someone else around, that person will drive your car around instead, thus giving you the opportunity to rent your car out to a complete stranger. This experiment will be taking place in the US and the UK which will see close to 30,000 participants in the UK and US.

Basically the idea here is to use the money made from renting out the car to offset the payments you might be making towards to your car’s loan. The company will be teaming up with easyCar Club in the UK and Getaround in the US, both of whom will pretty much be doing the heavy lifting as far as this experiment is concerned.

It’s an intriguing idea and given that owning a car can be expensive and sometimes you just don’t need it on a daily basis, why not rent one instead, right? Or better yet why not rent it out and collect some money at the same time? Of course this is based on the assumption that you feel comfortable with the idea of someone renting your car, but what say you? Would you be willing to rent your car to a complete stranger?
