galaxy-note-4-review-08It is expected that eventually USB Type-C will be the new standard adopted by computers and phones. However for now, only a handful of devices feature the port, like the new 12-inch MacBook from Apple, and the Google Chromebook Pixel 2, but if the rumors are to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 5 could sport the USB Type-C port as well.

According to the rumors, the handset is said to feature a USB 3.1 Type-C port. What this means is that it will have a transfer rate of 10Gbps which is double that offered by the current USB 3.0 standard. It will also feature a reversible connector similar to the Lightning connector meaning you won’t have to fiddle with the right way to put the cable in.

The Type-C cable will also offer up 20 volts and 5 amps of power, so in terms of charging it looks like the speed has been boosted as well. We can only imagine combining that with whatever speed charging technology that Samsung might include in the phone and you’ve got yourself a device that should be able to charge itself to full in no time.

However since this is a rumor it should be best taken with a grain of salt for now. That being said, we do know that Samsung has plans for the Galaxy Note 5 which was hinted at by a Samsung exec earlier this month. The handset is expected to make its debut at IFA 2015 this September, so check back with us then for the details.
