The Galaxy S6 appears to have done wonders for Android’s position in the United States as well as handing back lead of the market to Samsung. Latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech for three months ending May 2015 shows that Android’s market share in the country increased by 2.8 percentage points to 64.9 percent aided in part by the first full month of sales of the Galaxy S6.

It’s a slightly different story in Europe though where Android OS dropped 2.9 percentage points as opposed to the same period last year, with no major movement being witnessed in the five major European markets that include Spain, Italy, France, England and Germany.

Kantar’s chief of research Carolina Milanesi said that the first full month of sales of the Galaxy S6 have handed back the market lead to Samsung in the U.S., growing its market share from 52% in three months ending April 2015 to 55% for three months ending in May 2015.

Samsung also witnessed growth in the market period-over-period as the Galaxy S6 become the country’s third best selling smartphone after the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5. An improvement has also been seen in the company’s year-over-year performance.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge seems to have worked out nicely for Samsung, at least as far as the United States is concerned.
