photos backupAt Google I/O, the company announced their new Photos app which is basically a replacement of Google+ Photos. The new service from Google will allow users to store and upload unlimited photos and videos onto the cloud for free, thus making it more appealing compared to other similar services out there.

However it seems that apart from being a mere photos and videos backup service, the app appears to be able to do more than that. Recently it has been discovered that the Photos will also be able to help manage the storage on your Android device, at least as far as photos and videos are concerned.

Presumably if you are using it, you have been steadily backing up your photos and videos to the cloud. So what that means is that you will have a ton of media on your handset or tablet that you might no longer need to store locally which in turn could also be taking up valuable storage, and with the Photos app, it will notify users when their storage gets too full and offer to delete some older photos.

The photos and videos that will be deleted are those that are more than 30 days old and that have been uploaded onto the cloud. This will ensure that you won’t accidentally delete photos that have not been backed up yet.
