blizzard tavern brawlEarlier this week we reported that Blizzard was teasing a possible new game mode for their free-to-play card game Hearthstone. For those wondering what it is, wonder no more as Blizzard has officially unveiled it. The new mode is dubbed Tavern Brawl and it is basically a way for players to duke it out using new rules that will change week to week.

According to Blizzard’s description of the new mode, “Each week, a different Tavern Brawl will pit you head to head versus another player using exciting and unique rules. One week might feature preset decks, while another week could have you crafting a brand new Tavern Brawl deck following specific guidelines, while others might offer buffs to specific minion types—who knows!”

Players will be able to play against other random players, or if they wish they can duke it out with their own friends. It certainly sounds like an interesting way to play Hearthstone, especially if you consider yourself to be a good player and want something new to challenge yourself with. Tavern Brawl will be free (as opposed to the expansions which players need to shell out real money for) and will be released mid-June.

However players will need to have a level 20 hero before entering the mode. As a way to celebrate the launch of the feature, Blizzard also announced that players will be eligible to win a new pack of cards for winning their first game of the week in a round of Tavern Brawl.
