metallica-1-credit-soren-starbirdIt seems that with the launch of Apple Music, the fact that musicians aren’t getting paid enough by music streaming companies have been highlighted once more. In fact musician Taylor Swift penned an open letter in which she pretty much lambasted Apple for thinking that it was fair to not pay artists during the 3 month trial period.

However as much as some artists and labels do not like Apple Music or streaming services in general, there are some that do, such as Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich was claims that he feels “safe” with Apple Music. Speaking at the Cannes Lions creativity festival, Ulrich pretty much throws his support, and presumably his band’s support as well, behind the upcoming music service.

He was quoted as saying, “I think that Apple is just about the coolest company in the world. I am a huge supporter of Apple and all their products, and I have been fortunate enough to meet most of the people there, a lot of the people who make key decisions, and I feel very safe with them.”

Ulrich also added that he and his band have had a great relationship with Spotify when they signed up three years ago. Metallica’s support is particularly interesting given that in the past, the band has had issues with music sharing services, namely Napster in which the band brought the file sharing platform to court. They also had issue with iTunes and only agreed to start selling their music on the platform 3 years after it launched.
