mirror's edge 2A couple of years ago, the folks at DICE and EA revealed that they were working on a new Mirror’s Edge game that was due for a 2016 release. It was largely assumed that the name of the game would be Mirror’s Edge 2, which is why when a trademark for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was recently revealed, many speculated that it could be for a different game.

Well as it turns out the speculation was wrong. DICE has since confirmed (via MCV) that Catalyst will be the name of the new game. According to the developers, it seems that the new game will be so different from the original that they didn’t think that it should merely be known as Mirror’s Edge 2.

According to the Mirror’s Edge website, “The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.”

Unfortunately as to what kind of gameplay Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will entail remains to be seen, but given how fun and unique the first game was, it’s safe to say that we’re excited to see what’s in store for the next title. DICE and EA are expected to share the details of the game at E3 2015 next week, so be sure to check back with us then for the details.
