Earlier this month we reported on an interesting smartphone case from Nikola Labs that basically took the radio waves around you to help charge your smartphone. Well the good news is that if you wanted to get your hands on the device, you’re in luck as its creators have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help make it a reality.

For those who are hearing about this for the first time, the Nikola phone case has the ability to harness radio frequency waves and turn it into electricity, which in turn can be used to charge your phone and give it a longer battery life. According to the company, “By recycling the wasted RF energy given off by your phone — our case significantly extends your phone’s battery life between charges. Giving you what’s most important: time.”

Ultimately what happens is thanks to the continuous recycling of RF energy, your phone will see a much slower battery drain compared to phones without the case. The company promises that their technology will not impact data transmissions or call quality. While it won’t actually keep your phone alive indefinitely, the energy harvested is said to reduce battery consumption rate by as much as 30%.

Unfortunately at the moment the case is only compatible with the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6, but the company is planning to support the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy S6 Edge in the future. Interestingly enough this follows additional reports this month that sees researchers harness the power from WiFi to help charge or even power devices.
