2877887-fallout4_trailer_end_1433355589In case you haven’t realized this by now, but Bethesda’s recently announced Fallout 4 will not have multiplayer mode. Is this disappointing? Slightly, but given that Bethesda has created some very impressive single-player games in the past like the previous Fallout titles and The Elder Scrolls series, we suppose this shouldn’t really matter.

However it seems that at one point in time, the studio did consider the idea of multiplayer but ultimately decided that maybe that wasn’t the way to go. In an interview with Mashable, the game’s director Todd Howard revealed that Bethesda’s approach to designing games always had a multiplayer approach to it, but over time the feasibility of it is considered before deciding if they should go through with it.

According to Howard, “Believe it or not, every time we do a game we design a multiplayer mode just to see what we would do. Then we go, ‘Yup, we shouldn’t do that. That’s an awesome idea that is way too distracting from the main thing we want to do, which is single player.’ I could see ways it would work, but development-wise, they’re very different experiences.”

Like we said it is a bit disappointing that Fallout 4 won’t have multiplayer, but seeing as how many gamers have fallen in love with the Fallout franchise regardless of its multiplayer capabilities, we suppose at the end of the day it doesn’t really make much of a difference, but what say you? Would you have liked to see multiplayer in Fallout 4?
