rockband-4-ps4-xbox-oneA couple of months ago, the folks at Harmonix announced that they would be releasing a new Rock Band game in the form of Rock Band 4. The game was also announced for platforms like the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One, but the question is why wasn’t it announced for the PC?

Now if you’re thinking it might have something to do with compatibility, it seems that isn’t the issue. Rather the issue here seems to have to do with the piracy in the music industry. It seems that the music rights holders to the songs of Rock Band 4 are worried that gamers on the PC will find a way to rip the songs and upload them online for download.

Speaking to the folks at Eurogamer, Harmonix Product Manager Daniel Sussman was quoted as saying, “The other piece is all the security issues, to be perfectly frank. There’s something comforting about the closed network that comes along with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That’s important to our partners in the music industry.” That being said unless these songs are brand new and exclusive to Rock Band 4, chances are they’ve already been pirated.

However this doesn’t mean that it won’t ever come to the PC. Harmonix’s statement reads, “It’s not off the table for the future, however we’re first focusing on delivering Rock Band 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this holiday.”
