flexible-skinThe invisibility cloak would definitely be something that all of us would love to have – although it would work even better if such a magical item were to be accompanied by shoes that made no sound regardless of the surface that you walk on with it. Still, having one out of two ain’t too bad, and kudos to students at the University of Central Florida to have come up with a new kind of nano technology that results in a skin-like display that can bend light at the same time change color in an instant. A new invisibility cloak, perhaps?

Inspired by nature (naturally), it will certainly fly in the face of all the other displays by man – LCD, LED, CRT, as those happen to be rigid, in addition to being brittle and bulky. Hence, the idea was developed and eventually worked out into being an extremely thin, metallic nanostructure between a layer of liquid crystal. This invention, when applied with electricity, will be able to reflect the natural light that is around the object.

In principal, things can now be made impossible, but there are still many technological challenges that need to be overcome before it ends up as viable enough for everyday – and military applications.
