steam_concurrentIt used to be back in the day that if you wanted to buy a video game, you’d have to buy it at a local retailer, or purchase it directly from the developer/publisher’s website. However these days gamers have access to portals and storefronts such as Steam where you can find all the games you want and download them in one place.

Without doubt Steam is one of the more popular platforms at the moment, but how popular are we talking about? Well according to Steam’s stats page, it has been revealed that the platform has managed to hit 10 million concurrent users, which basically means that at any given time, there are about 10 million users using Steam at the moment.

Of course these users aren’t just on Steam to do their shopping, but to play games as well. As it stands it seems that Valve’s DotA 2 is one of the more popular titles on Steam at the moment, followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Team Fortress 2 is also in the mix, along with titles from other developers such as Grand Theft Auto V, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Football Manager 2015 just to name a few.

That being said we wouldn’t be surprised if the recent Steam Summer Sale helped boost the number of concurrent users. Last year’s Steam Summer Sale’s Encore Day helped boost the platform’s concurrent users to 8 million where previously it was hovering around the 7 million mark.
