twitter-autoplay

It’s been awhile since Facebook switched on autoplay for videos that show up in your News Feed, eliminating multiple clicks that were previously required to fire up a video. Twitter is finally following suit with a similar feature, it’s bringing autoplaying videos to the timeline. The company points out that previously it required several taps to get a video playing on Twitter but with this change will reduce that number and ultimately make it much easier for users to view and share videos on its microblogging platform.

Starting today, GIFs, Vines and native videos will start playing automatically if you swipe by them in the timeline. Like Facebook, videos will play automatically with the sound muted, the sound will only turn on when you tap on the video.

If you turn the device in landscape mode the sound will automatically be turned on and the video will expand itself to fit the entire screen.

Twitter is allowing users to opt out of this feature so if you don’t want the videos appearing in your timeline to play automatically just switch off the feature in the Settings menu. Settings also allow for videos to autoplay only when the mobile device is on a Wi-Fi network and not on cellular data.

This feature is rolling out to Twitter on the web and its iOS app today, Android will get it but at a later date that’s not yet been revealed.
