typoWhen Typo announced their keyboard accessory for the iPhone, straight away many were pointing out the similarities between its design and some of the keyboards found on BlackBerry handsets. BlackBerry thought so as well and filed a lawsuit against Typo claiming infringement over its keyboard design.

Well for those who are wondering how the lawsuit turned out, it looks like BlackBerry walked away the victor. Both companies have recently agreed to settle although based on what we do know about the settlement, it certainly sounds like BlackBerry benefited the most from it. Basically Typo has agreed that they will no longer sell the keyboard for smartphones.

However there is a catch. The company will be able to manufacture and sell keyboards except for devices larger than 7.9-inches meaning that future Typo products will be aimed at tablets. According to the agreement, “Typo Products LLC, Typo Innovations LLC, Show Media LLC, Hallier Investments LLC, and Laurence Hallier may continue to sell keyboards for devices with a screen size of 7.9 inches or larger.”

As it stands if you were to head on over to Typo’s website, the company no longer lists the iPhone accessory for sale. Instead the company is only offering up keyboards for Apple’s iPad and iPad mini tablets.
