volta chargingAs it stands electric car charging stations aren’t as widespread compared to gas stations. This means that you will need to know where you want to go lest you find yourself stranded in the middle of the highway with no more juice left to power your car. Of course car makers have been trying to create more EV charging stations, but they can’t be expected to cover everywhere, right?

Well this is where Volta comes in. For those unfamiliar, Volta is a startup company based in Honolulu and what they have done is increase the number of EV charging stations. These EV stations are also free but if you’re wondering what’s in it for Volta, how about ad revenue? Yup, the company basically provides free EV charging stations and in return, these stations will feature an ad display.

The ads will naturally be bought and paid for by companies looking to advertise their product, which in turn allows Volta to provide drivers with free EV stations. As it stands, the company has over 100 free charging stations located across the country and has recently managed to secure $7.5 million in funding to help expand its network to about 400 units.

Volta’s stations are typically placed at upmarket malls and grocery stores, so advertisers will have a reason to place an ad there as it could serve a dual purpose. It’s an amazing idea and one that we hope will see a wider rollout in the future.
