Yahoo has announced today that it will stop supporting some services on older iOS devices and Mac machines. This is going to affect Yahoo Mail users who use Apple’s native Mail app on older iOS devices and Yahoo Contact syncing on Macs that run older versions of OS X. Users have nearly two weeks to get their affairs in order before Yahoo cuts support, so they better hurry in setting up alternatives to safeguard themselves against the headache of finding an alternative after Yahoo ends support.

June 15th is the date to keep in mind because that’s when these changes are going to take place, users should ideally migrate their services before that to avoid any problems later on.

After June 15th, Yahoo Mail will only support Apple’s native Mail application on iOS devices that run on iOS 5 or higher firmware. The company is ending support for the native app on iOS 4 and older versions of the OS. It’s doing this to focus more on security and functionality.

Those users will still be able to use Yahoo’s email service by going to mail.yahoo.com, but the native Mail app on the device won’t pull in new email from Yahoo.

Mac users should note that Yahoo will stop supporting contact syncing on machines that run OS X Lion 10.7 or earlier versions, users are directed to the web version to access contacts after June 15th.
