What better time to feature a tennis video when the matches at Wimbledon are in full swing and tennis is quite literally in the air, that is if you’re a fan of this sport. Tennis balls are quite sturdy and hard which is why you wouldn’t expect them to deform quite spectacularly but that’s precisely what happens when a player delivers a 142 miles-per-hour swing, as this slow motion video proves.

It’s the sort of reaction that you wouldn’t be able to capture through the naked eye, it’s impossible to see that happening if you’re on the court or watching on the television, it’s only when you watch it in slow motion you see what the sheer force does to the tennis ball.

The video shows the racket hitting the ball just as a 142 miles-per-hour serve is delivered and it’s very interesting to see what reaction all of that force has on the ball, which deforms radically and even appears to be goo-like at one instance.

The more you slow down the video the more interesting it becomes to watch, at one point it even seems as if the ball has actually been absorbed by the racket itself.

So the next time you hit the courts and smash such a fast serve, you’ll probably know what the ball is going through.
