official-iphone-5c-1With the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, it sounds like Apple is ready to embrace larger displays. However we have been hearing conflicting reports that Apple might consider a slightly more affordable and smaller 4-inch iPhone 6c for this year, supposedly following in the lines of the iPhone 5c from a couple of years ago.

Like we said, the reports are conflicting. Some have suggested that such a device is on its way, while later reports say that it isn’t. Now it looks like we’re back to the drawing board again because according to Timothy Arcuri who is an analyst for Cowen and Company, he claims that plans for the 4-inch iPhone 6c have been scrapped (again).

Just like how the iPhone 5c was supposed to be a plastic and cheaper version of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 6c was supposed to pack the same hardware as the iPhone 6, except in a smaller 4-inch body. While it won’t exactly be considered a budget handset, it would be priced lower than the flagship models, making it easier for customers to own an iPhone.

Arcuri speculates that the reason the phone has been scrapped was due to a fear of cannibalization. “I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well, and they said, ‘Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6C, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6.’”

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but in the year of 2015, would a 4-inch smartphone really be able to cut it with customers?
