Android devices that are over two years old usually get dropped from the supported devices list so it was no surprise to see Google reveal earlier this year that Android M will not be available for Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and the Nexus 7 (2012). This means that folks who have these devices should either upgrade to a new one or keep their fingers crossed for Google to change its mind, and it seems possible that the company might very well change its mind.

A fresh update from May 28th was discovered in the AOSP repositories of Nexus 10 a.k.a manta and the update was marked “android-m-preview,” and similar updates were found for the Nexus 4 and the Wi-Fi only variant of Nexus 7 (2012).

Google is keeping quiet for now so it hasn’t confirmed whether or not it will really bring Android M to these devices, it has also not yet commented on this report.

The possibility exists that Google might be testing preview builds of the Android M for Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and the Nexus 7 (2012) and if it feels that the software can run up to the mark on these devices perhaps it will officially announce that they’ll get Android M as well.

Android M was unveiled by Google at this year’s I/O developers conference, the new software’s public release is expected to take place in the fall alongside a new Nexus handset from the company.
