banner-sagaNow this is a reversal in roles for sure – in the past, it was board games that are deemed to have taken the “next step” by being translated into a computer game, although the success rate varies from title to title. I still remember the first version of Blood Bowl on the PC, it was hilarious and full of blood, although the tabletop game was a whole lot better to play. Same goes for Space Hulk, as the board game was a lot more engaging than the PC version that proved to be extremely difficult as the Genestealers seem to steal a march on your team all too often. Well, Stoic’s tactical role-playing series with a Viking theme, known as The Banner Saga, is taking the reverse route, by developing a miniatures board game adaptation that will be known as The Banner Saga: Warbands.

In order to make this dream happen, Stoic will work alongside publisher Versus Evil as well as board game manufacturer MegaCon Games. So far, details concerning The Banner Saga: Warbands remain scant, although we might be looking at a Kickstarter campaign real soon.

The Banner Saga did get into the limelight early last year as King, Candy Crush Saga’s developer, wanted to trademark the words “Saga” and “Candy”, much to the amusement of the industry, and Stoic was, well, stoic in their stand to continue churning out Viking-themed games with the word “Saga” inside, regardless.
