trials-of-osiris-destinyJust like how games like World of Warcraft have players invest their characters for years and years to come, it seems that the folks at Bungie understand that Destiny players have done the same thing as well. Granted Destiny hasn’t been around for that long, but so far from what they can tell, players have a vested interest in their characters.

So much so that during an interview with GamesRadar+, the game’s engineering lead Luke Timmins reassured gamers that their characters would stick with them for the next 10 years, meaning that if you’d rather not have to create new ones when expansions or sequels are released, you won’t have to.

According to Timmins, “We certainly take it seriously that Destiny is a ten-year thing. It’s a long-term thing and with these adventures that we’re adding my contract to you – and any player – is that your Guardian will always be there. We’re going to keep adding new stuff for you to do and I’d hope you’ll look at The Taken King and be like, ‘I’m looking forward to logging on again and hooking friends online’.”

However as GamesRadar+ points out, it will be interesting to see how Bungie will develop the game where newbies will be able to catch up with players who might have sunk much more hours into the game, but if you’re already a veteran, you can rest easy knowing you won’t need to start from scratch, unless you want to.
