facebook-logo-new

Facebook has grown into so much more than what it started out to be, sure it’s still the largest social network on the planet but the company now has its fingers in even more pies and it’s not going to stop looking for other things to do. Despite all of its achievements and its monumental growth the company has never really changed its logo and its wordmark has remained fairly simple. Yesterday the company did change its logo but it did it so quietly that hardly anyone knew and if you don’t pay attention you probably won’t see any change in the logo.

It’s not a radical change by any means, just the simple “facebook” makes up the logo but the font is a bit less distinctive than before. The only real change that’s evident once you really pay attention is that the company has gone from using a double-story “a” to a single-story one.

The refreshed logo allows for thinner lettering and more whitespace presumably to ensure that the wordmark doesn’t lose its legibility on mobile devices particularly with lower resolution displays.

The new logo has been designed by Eric Olson of Process Type Foundry in collaboration with Facebook’s in-house design team. It will replace the old one on Facebook’s websites and applications very soon while the company’s favicon and large F logo remaining the same.
