As many of you guys have heard, Google+ Photos will be shutting down in favor of Google Photos that was launched a couple of months ago. Perhaps to help promote the company’s new photo management/backup service, Google has teased that come 29th of July, they will soon be letter Google Photos users #paywithaphoto.

According to Google, “We’ve got something very special cooking next week in NYC. Want a hint? Wafels not waffles.” Now before you think that this is another mobile payments service that Google is launching, think again. According to the folks at Droid-Life, it seems that they have confirmed with Google that this is a promotion that will involve food trucks.

Basically these trucks will be rolling through NYC, Portland, Los Angeles, and Austin starting 29th of July. There will be some kind of game involved where users will have to use Google Photos’ search ability to find a specific food on their phone (thus highlighting the service’s ability to identify and search for photos using keywords), and if they are able to do that within a certain time, they get to win something.

This could be a free meal thus the #paywithaphoto slogan. In any case it sounds like a pretty fun thing to do and if you happen to be in the area and you wouldn’t mind grabbing a free meal (if you can win it), why not?
