iPad-air-review-5Ever since Apple launched the iPad, it has been pretty tough for other brands to capture the tablet market. Despite the best efforts we’ve seen from the likes of Samsung and Microsoft, Apple’s iPad is still in the lead, and even if you’re not a fan of the tablet, the ubiquity of the iPad is undeniable.

That being said, how are the iPad’s numbers looking recently? Thanks to newly published numbers by the IDC, it seems that the iPad is still in the lead with a market share of 24.5%. However it should be noted that this is actually a 17.9% decline from the previous year where Apple commanded 27.7% of the tablet market.

Coming in second place is Samsung with a market share of 17%. Once again Samsung’s share has actually declined along with unit shipments by 12%, where previously Samsung enjoyed an 18% market share. Then we have our Chinese OEMs such as Lenovo and Huawei who came in third and fourth respectively.

Unlike Apple and Samsung, these companies have actually seen growth albeit not by much. Lenovo grew by 6.8% and shipped 2.5 million units in Q2 2015, while Huawei saw a rather explosive growth of 103.6%, albeit this only amounted to 1.6 million shipments and a 3.7% market share.
