smartphone upgradeConstantly upgrading your smartphone can be expensive, but for some users, they absolutely have to have the latest and best smartphone, but when it comes to upgrading, who does it more frequently? iPhone users? Android users? BlackBerry users? According to a recent Gallup poll (via Forbes), it turns out that iPhone owners are the most likely to upgrade.

As you can see in the graphs above, iPhone users are 51% more likely to upgrade their phones every 2 years, which coincidentally enough is when contracts with carriers expire and they are eligible to sign up for a new one and a new phone. Also given that iPhone designs are typically refreshed every two years, it could be a good reason to upgrade too.

Android users on the other hand aren’t as likely to upgrade at 40%, although that is still rather high. As for “others”, which presumably includes the likes of Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Tizen, Symbian, and etc., that number stays rather low at 21%. In terms of upgrading when necessary, like when it stops working, iPhone users rank lower at 47%, suggesting that they are likely to upgrade even if their phones are still in working condition.

Thankfully it seems that for the most part, owners across all platforms aren’t very frivolous with their money as chances of upgrading once a year is rather low at 2% for iPhone and Android users, and 3% for other platforms.
