ringlightphoneAs it stands there aren’t too many smartphones around with front-facing flash units. This means that trying to take a selfie in the dark usually yields less than ideal results. That being said if you’re looking to take your selfie game to the next level, then perhaps the Kira ring light might be an accessory worth checking out.

As you can see from the photos, the device is pretty straightforward. It’s basically a ring flash attachment that mounts on top of your smartphone. The added bonus is that because it is a ring flash, the flash is displaced more evenly as opposed to more traditional flashes which are more direct and harsher.

The Kira ring light was created by Julie Watai, a photographer who felt disappointed by the poorly-lit selfies from her iPhone. The device is said to measure 90x90x30cm and will require two AA batteries for it to operate. Unfortunately it is unclear as to how much the Kira ring light will cost or when it will be available.

However it seems that for now, Watai is currently trying to crowdfund her project so if you’d like to learn more, hit up Kibi-Dango for the details, although we should note that it is in Japanese.
