LG has announced today that it’s going to start mass production of the Advanced In-Cell Touch display panels for notebook PCs which is going to make laptops radically lighter and slimmer than ever before, mass production of these panels will begin in the second half of this year. The company claims that the new Full HD LCD panel with the In-Cell touch function is an “exclusive development” by its display team.

The in-cell touch technology places a touch sensor within the LCD panel whereas existing solutions add-on the touch panel on top of the LCD thus increasing thickness and weight.

LG has previously used this technology to manufacture displays for smartphones such as its own flagship the LG G4, though this is the first time it claims that this technology is being applied to larger devices as such laptop computers.

Since there’s no cover glass the display panel offers brighter and clearer screen picture as well as impressive touch response and precise calibration of the touch point even if there are water drops on the screen.

LG Display says that it has already agreed to provide these panels in 15.6 inch and 14 inch sizes to “several global notebook PC brands,” and says that the company is actively in discussions with other potential customers.
