linksys_antennasDue the placement of our wireless routers, sometimes there are some areas of the home or office that might not have the same amount of coverage compared to other areas. This could be due to a variety of reasons, like walls getting in the way, or the router unable to transmit far enough because of its range.

However if you’d rather not buy a WiFi extender for fear of losing some speed, you might be interested to learn that Linksys has begun shipping their high-gain antennas. As you can see in the image above, these are antennas designed to be attached to your wireless router which in turn will help to boost its range, thus covering a wider area.

While the Linksys WRT004ANT was designed for the company’s own WRT1900AC and WRT1200AC routers, it seems that they should have no problems working with other router brands as long as that particular router you plan to attach it to uses a RP-SMA antenna connection, which is pretty much the case for most commercial routers these days.

Linksys claims that the antennas will be able to deliver 4dBi in the 2.4GHz band and 7dBi i the 5GHz band and can cover twice the amount of area compared to stock antennas. The antennas are not cheap and are priced at $100 for the WRT004ANT four pack, and $60 for the WRT002ANT 2 pack.
