edgeMicrosoft Edge is the new browser the Microsoft will be bundling with Windows 10 on the computer and on mobile devices. Based on initial impressions of the browser, many seem to be pretty pleased with what Microsoft has done, but how does it fare against the competition? According to Microsoft’s blog, pretty damn well.

Microsoft revealed that the Edge team has been working to optimize the performance of the browser, and rightfully so. They then ran JavaScript benchmarks to see how it fared against the competition and according to the numbers, Edge proved to be faster by 112% than Chrome on WebKit Sunspider, 11% on Google Octane, and 37% on Apple JetStream.

It should be noted that these are just benchmarks and just like internet speedtests, these numbers more or less show the potential of what the browser could achieve, although how it fares in real-life usage amongst a variety of users is an entirely different story, but we have to admit getting an edge (pun intended) over browsers like Chrome does make for good advertising.

The Internet Browser brand has been getting a lot of flak over the years and has become almost like a joke, so hopefully with the newly branded Edge browser, Microsoft will finally have a browser that users will happily turn to.
