nintendoqolNintendo is primarily known as a gaming company, although in recent times it has been revealed that the company is thinking about diversifying, so much so that earlier this year it was revealed that Nintendo had plans to enter the health industry with a sleep monitoring device. It was unclear as to what exactly Nintendo has up their sleeves, but that might have changed.

According to a recent patent discovered by the folks on the NeoGAF forums (via IGN), it seems to show Nintendo’s plans for their sleep monitor. Of course we should point out that this is a patent and we’re sure Nintendo, just like a lot of companies, has patents registered that aren’t necessarily planned to be made into actual products or services.

However given Nintendo does have plans for a sleep monitor, this patent does clue us in as to what we might expect. According to the patent, the sleep monitor seems to work together with a smartphone which is docked into some kind of device. The device appears to have a set of speakers and a built-in projector.

It is unclear as to what the projector would be used for, but it has been suggested that the user’s sleep score will be projected onto the ceiling so that when they wake up, they will know whether or not they’ve had a good night’s sleep. The monitor is also expected to come packed with sensors to measure pulse rate, temperature, and other biometrics.

It’s an interesting idea but like we said, the end product might be very different from the patent. In any case chances are we won’t be hearing about Nintendo’s health efforts this year so hopefully come 2016 we will have more details to share with you guys.
