shield-tablet-review-32Slightly more than a week ago, we did hear that the NVIDIA SHIELD Portable has received the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, and just earlier this morning, we brought you word that the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet has been issued a recall due to a potential overheating hazard. Well, perhaps it would be a good idea to just send in your device for the recall and obtain a new one from NVIDIA, rather than to go ahead with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update instead.

This particular update will not only feature the new build of the Android mobile operating system, it will also feature a fix for an audio problem that seemed to have plagued the tablet owners. Apparently, when one loads selected titles, there was a handful of SHIELD owners who claimed to have heard a loud noise that has been deemed to be some sort of screeching sound. This update will also be accompanied by a slew of performance improvements and stability, in addition to system-wide optimizations and fixes.

It will weigh in at 767MB and will be available to SHIELD Tablet owners via Over The Air (OTA). The usual caveat applies here, make sure you have at least 50% of your battery charged, and also to make a backup of your data before going ahead with the update. Read more about the release notes here.
