Computers come in all shapes and sizes, and unlike two decades ago, computers these days are considerably more affordable than what they used to be back in the day. A good example would be the Remix Mini, which as you can see from the images is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and it would only set you back $30.
Best of all, it is powered by Google’s Android operating system which the folks at Jide Tech have modified into a platform called Remix OS which is based on Android Lollipop. Since Android was designed for mobile devices, the modifications made to the platform have turned the system into a desktop-like operating system, which based on what we’ve seen is a cross between Android and Chrome OS.
The Remix Mini will pack a 1.2GHz Allwinner quad-core Cortex-A53 64-bit chipset under its hood and will be accompanied by 1GB/2GB of RAM, depending on your preference. It will also be able to store 8GB/16GB, which once again is based on your preference. It will feature 4K HDMI output, support for 4K*2K resolution, and will also feature your usual array of ports like USB 2.0, HDMI 1.4, Ethernet, and a headphone port.
It will also come with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, in case you decide that maybe you’d rather save your USB ports for external storage instead of peripherals like keyboards or mice. It is a super sleek setup, not to mention affordable and familiar, thanks to it being based on Android.
The project has since shot past its humble Kickstarter goal of $50,000 and has now raised close to $300,000 at this time of writing, but there is still time to get in on it so head on over to its Kickstarter page if you’d like to pledge your support.
