vw-robot-deathWorking with robots is nothing new at all – there are plenty of factories around the world that have humans working side by side with robots, especially on the assembly line where human intuition and robotic precision complement one another, especially in the mass manufacturing process. The idea of a killer robot tends to be in the realm of science fiction, but it seems that industrial accidents to happen from time to time, and a robot has reportedly killed a technician over at a Volkswagen plant near Kassel, Germany.

The victim was a 21 year old external contractor, where he was putting the robot together alongside another colleague when tragedy struck. The robot hit the external contractor in the chest, and pressed him against a metal plate. The injuries proved to be too severe to recover from, where he later succumbed to them at a nearby hospital.

Currently, an investigation is being carried out to figure out just how such an accident can happen, with hopes to clear things up and ensure that it does not happen again. After all, robots at the plant are kept behind safety cages so that there will be no such accidents that will happen. Skynet in its infancy, perhaps?
