Many expected that Samsung would unveil a new smartwatch at the Mobile World Congress 2015 back in March but it didn’t, later the company said that since it’s working on developing the perfect smartwatch it’s going to need some time. It’s now expected that Samsung’s next wearable device will debut next month alongside the Galaxy Note 5. Today specifications of the Gear A smartwatch have been leaked online.
Previous reports suggest that this smartwatch may be known internally as the Gear A or Orbis, so that’s what it’s currently called in the media as well. Samsung hasn’t said what the official moniker is going to be.
Samsung Gear A is said to feature a round AMOLED display measuring around 38mm and 42mm in diameter with 360×360 pixel resolution. Samsung’s own dualcore 1.2Ghz Exynos 3472 processor will power it with 768MB RAM, 4GB onboard storage topped off with a 250mAh battery.
Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11b/b/n, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS receiver, accelerometer, gyrometer, barometer, heart rate monitor are all likely to be present on this smartwatch.
Don’t expect it to be powered by Android Wear though even if that is the platform of choice for many smartwatch manufacturers these days, Samsung is going to stick with Tizen for this device.
Samsung was previously expected to launch the Gear A at IFA 2015 in September but since the company is reportedly going to push the Galaxy Note 5’s launch to August, perhaps it may also show off this device next month.
