Sony-Concept-for-Android-screen-shotsIf there is one thing that Android users can probably agree on is that OEMs laying on themes and skins on Android isn’t a particularly good experience. This usually results in the phone lagging unnecessarily, and being bogged down by features that users may or may not use. This is why Nexus handsets tend to be a popular choice due to the vanilla Android experience.

Now previously we had reported that Sony was looking to test a new concept of Android in Sweden, and now thanks to a recent blog post by Sony Mobile, we have our first glimpse at what Sony is working on, and boy we have to admit that we are liking what we see, as you can see for yourselves in the screenshot above.

Basically it looks like Sony is creating as vanilla an experience as possible with their Android concept. Unlike UIs offered by companies such as Samsung or HTC, Sony’s Android concept appears to be very clean and uncluttered. In fact this is something that Sony themselves are admitting.

According to Sony, “It has some significant differences compared to our current commercial releases, with a stripped back, vanilla Android look and feel, with native Sony features and apps we find most popular amongst our users.” Unfortunately for now Sony is still testing out the concept and it is only applicable for Xperia Z3, but hopefully if it all goes to plan, this is the UI we can expect for future Sony devices, and maybe even existing ones in the form of an update.
