The great thing about virtual reality videos is that you get to feel like you’re actually there. Most of the time videos usually presents one perspective where you’re looking at whatever the director wants you to be looking at, but with virtual reality, you get to choose what you’re looking at by panning the camera around.

However in order to capture all that footage, special camera setups need to be made, or alternatively you could always opt for a camera that is capable of capturing video in 360-degree mode. This is what the Sphericam 2 plans to do as it has launched itself on Kickstarter and has billed itself as being the perfect 360-degree camera for virtual reality.

According to the description, “Sphericam 2 is a spherical, 360º camera that allows you to capture absolutely everything around you in high resolution without any blind spots. You can watch the resulting videos on a VR Headset (like Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR or Google Cardboard) or on your iPad, tablet, PC or mobile phone.”

Best of all, it also seems to be able to capture footage in 4K resolution, which is kind of the standard that companies are moving towards, and also capture it at 60fps which should result in some pretty smooth videos. The campaign has so far managed to exceed its goal of $150,000 by raising over $200,000 at this time of posting, but there is still some time left so if you’d like to pledge your support, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.
