We’re not sure how many of you guys remember the Worms franchise from back in the day. For those who don’t, basically it’s a game where you get to drop a variety of worms on a battlefield, and each player takes turns taking out the other player’s worms with a variety of cute and novel weapons.

Granted it might not be as popular today as it was back in the day, but the folks at Team17 have recently unveiled to Pocket Gamer that they have a new Worms in the works in the form of Worms 4. The concept of Worms 4 is similar to the previous version where you have single and multiplayer aspects of the game.

However it has been designed for mobile so the landscape will be smaller, your teams will be smaller, and your match lengths will be shorter, which makes sense if you’re gaming on the go. Gamers will be treated to new weapons which can also be upgraded to become more powerful along the way through loot earned in the game or by in-app purchases.

Thankfully it is not a free-to-play title. According to the game’s creative director Kevin Carthew, “We have looked at free to play, but for the version of Worms that we wanted to make, we think premium works best and allows us to focus a bit more on the specifics of the gameplay.” Unfortunately pricing was not announced. Worms 4 is expected to make its debut on iOS in August and other platforms are expected to follow after.
